CMSART at Shrewsbury National Night Out 2006

A National Night Out 2006 event was celebrated in the Town of Shrewsbury Massachusetts on August 1, 2006. The event was hosted by the Shrewsbury Police Department.

The National Night Out is an annual event that takes place across the United States, on the same night. This was the "23rd National Night Out" for crime and drug prevention. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, involved over 10,000 communities form all 50 states. In all, over 34 million people are expected to participate. National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts, Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organizing and fighting back. From 5pm to 7pm on August 1st neighborhoods throughout Shrewsbury and across the nation are asked to lock their doors turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

CMSART expresses special thanks to the Shrewsbury Police Department, especially Sergeant Mark Dubois for inviting us to the spectacular event. Some of the other participants and contributors, that also deserve recognition for the success of the evening include: FBI Boston, Worcester County District Attorney, the United States Coast Guard, Worcester County Sheriff, Shrewsbury Fire departments, Shrewsbury Family and Youth Services, ADVISE, New Hope, UMASS EMS, Magic World for the moonwalk and the delicious ice cream from Shelly s Deli.
